Greetings and welcome to the Demo Version of VisualFX for ImageFX. This is
The Official Brief ReadMe file designed to fill you in on what you need to
know to get up and running with VFX/IFX.
Like I said: this is the demo version of VFX/IFX. That is to say, while it
contains all of the Preview Animations from the first 4 volumes, only effect
#1 from each volume will actually work.
SPECIAL NOTE: This CD contains the Demo version of VFXIFX. It is also used
by the REAL version of VFX to install certain files to your hard drive.
By doing it this way, we only had to create one CD to fill both purposes.
So if you got a Demo CD and bought the package, the CD's will be the same.
The REAL product also comes with a Floppy disk that has ALL the effects on
it and will install the required files from both the disk & CD.
Naturally, you need to have ImageFX on your system (version 2.6 or above).
When started, VFX will search for the presence of ImageFX on your system
and then go and attempt to run it. If you're using a NewTek Toaster Flyer
system, you will need to have the Flyer up and running before you can set
up or render an effect. Flyer users also need to have the ImageFX render
module set for toaster. Furthermore, since the Flyer croutons take up a
lot of chip memory, it's best to have your view mode set up for
project/switcher with no current project loaded - this way you won't
have croutons hogging all of your chip memory.
MISC. IMAGEFX OPTIONS
We recommend the preview mode for ImageFX be set up to HiRes interlace
gray scale to conserve chip memory. The screen mode option should be set
for 640x200, 16 colors. Under ImageFX's "Misc. Options" menu (under the
"Prefs" button - where you set up the modules and settings, etc.), the
only things which should be checked are "Aspect Lock", "Toolbox Palette",
and "Use preview".
Another important thing is to make sure that ARexx is running first. If
it isn't, VFX will attempt to find and run it on its own.
As for how the program works:
When VFX first starts, it'll ask you which mode you want to run in: 4, 16,
or 256 colors. While the 256 color mode will of course only run on Amigas
equipped with the AGA chipset, the 16 color mode is a nice gray scale setup
for A2000's, and the 4 color mode is the big memory saver. In 4 color mode
there will be no preview anims, so this is a good choice for those folks
running on Flyer systems. ImageFX, VFX, and the Flyer all running at once
will definitely put the crunch on your available chip memory, and in order
to reserve the greatest amount of memory for The Work, the 4 color mode not
only dispenses with the preview animations, but it also dispenses with the
20 little descriptive pictures which would have appeared onscreen in the 20
little boxes you see.
As for how the program runs, how's THIS for easy?:
In addition to the 20 li'l boxes for the descriptive pictures, there are 4
li'l buttons at the bottom of the screen marked:
1. Load New Volume
2. Preview Effect
3. Setup Effect
4. Render Effect
Believe it or not, that's almost all the description you need. The only
extra bits you might want to know are:
"Preview Effect": When ya click on it, it'll run a little preview animation
in the box at bottom center of the screen (unless you're in 4 color mode).
This will show you what the effect will look like. If you like it, you
select what images you'd like to use (instead of the ones in the preview
- which are there just for the previewing). VFX will insert your images
and manipulate them in the same fashion as the previews.
"Setup Effect": When ya click on this, the effect will be loaded and sent
over to ImageFX so that you can, well.... set up the effect. You'll be asked
what image(s) to use and, through various different questions based upon the
effect currently chosen, it'll walk you through the process. Once you have
set up your effect, you click on:
"Render Effect": Once you have an effect set up, this button starts the
ball rolling. ImageFX will take over and begin the rendering process
automatically. All you do is sit back and contemplate all of the time
you're saving.....
